Swinging Country Dance, Knowlwood Restaurant, February 24, 2024

It was a line dancing, boot stomping evening at the old Smith’s barn with Donny and the Walkers playing country hits for the entire second session. During the three Electric Slide dances, the dance floor was packed with close-quarter dancing. Donny and the guest vocalists delivered new country music for a change-up to their usual sound. The floor and restaurant were full for most of the evening, and we had a great time dancing with new and old friends.

We had a wonderful birthday bash with Mike Reed at Silky Sullivan’s. We needed to arrive early for a good table or a seat because we filled the restaurant. The staff was overworked for a Wednesday evening, but they did remarkably well, taking care of us. Kudos to the staff!

Donny and the Walkers played three sets beginning promptly at 8 PM, and they didn’t want to quit even at 11:20! The music was sounding good, and the band and vocalists were enjoying the ambiance and lively crowd.

For Donny and the Walkers’ second intermission, Jim, Susan, Greg, Val, and Peter performed People Get Ready, which turned out to be a disappointment for me. I was told Val, our bass guitar player, has a beautiful voice and she would sing with Jim, but then she did not!

Although the dance started slowly, people kept coming throughout the whole evening. A number of new people came to see the band and dance. The ones I spoke with said they enjoyed the band. The guest vocalists sounded good and brought us four new songs.

After the dance, ten of us went to Norm’s for a bite and a couple of Sequence games. All are welcome to come, have a drink or meal, socialize, or play. Ask Emi or Jack if you are interested.

As I have used in the future April Showers Rain Dance, “Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass; it’s about learning to dance in the rain!” Saturday night, we were learning to dance in the rain.

In the past, a person outside of our group has been very helpful with scheduling the dates at MoonGoat Coffee, unaware that the other person had not set the date, it was never scheduled on MoonGoat’s calendar. In the future, we will not rely on outside assistance, but we appreciate their past assistance. Thank you!

I apologize for the extra driving, time wasted, and other problems with this mistake on our part. I have seen and heard of people assisting us to spread the word and would like to thank all who have assisted in that regard. I know of Emi, Dodie, Mike, Tay, Scott, and Mary.

I encourage all who attend the dances to subscribe to our website, become a member of our Facebook group, or follow our Facebook page. That may help you to be connected if a similar situation arises in the future.

Yamo had volunteered to come and set lights at MoonGoat Coffee, and we want to acknowledge his time and assistance. Thank you, Yamo. Also, a special thanks to the owner of Knowlwood for allowing us to use their restaurant in an urgent situation. We must remember to support them when we return on February 24, 2023 with our Swinging Country Dance.

Although it was a slow start, people filtered in all evening and, as usual, didn’t want to leave, although the restaurant employees wanted to shut down and go elsewhere. It was a fun dance with some new people finding us, and we got them involved. Everyone commented that it was a delightful evening other than ending way too early.

Thanks again to all the helpers who participated and worked to bring together a successful dance!

New Year’s Resolution: Dance, Amarith Table, January 6, 2024

We had a fun night with the band and dancers at Amarith Table! The regular dinner crowd was finishing as the band was warming up. The dance fans arrived early to dine and get seats. There were some new dancers, and I recall only one woman who was not dancing by the end of the evening. I’m impressed guys, very good!

I spoke with one new fan after the dance, and she volunteered that it was a very friendly group. We talked about the next dance at MoonGoat, and she said she heard of the place and would consider coming.

After the dance, we went to Denny’s and played Sequence until way too early! All are welcome to come afterward, have a drink or meal, and socialize or play. Ask Emi or Jack if you are interested.

Poodle skirts and leather jackets were back for the Swinging Fifties Dance at Knowlwood Restaurant. For the second and into the third set, Donny and the Walkers rocked and rolled the fifties memories. We had fun dancing and getting the skirts to flare out. Perhaps that is what made them popular. New dancers are coming for each dance, and a hearty thank you to all who stepped up to welcome them and include them in our dance soiree.

After the dance, we had a sizable group go next door for socializing and gaming until midnight. There were also new gamers! If you’re not ready to end an evening of fun, ask Emi or Jack where the after-dance group is going to meet.

There is plenty of parking at this venue. The inside seating is spacious, with front and back outdoor patios. Join us for a fun evening near I5 on Sand Canyon Avenue.

Donny and the Walkers play the best 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, Christian, Country, Latin, and Rock music with a bass line that makes us want to swing dance, line dance, and slow dance. Enjoy new music by the Walkers and guest vocalists Nick, Greg, Grant, Judi, Scott, Lorin, and others.

It’s Saturday Night and we have dance Fever. In addition to our favorite dance music, the second set will be dedicated to disco dance music by Donny and the Walkers. Come prepared to dance. This is a dance, not a concert. You will be asked to participate.

After Thanksgiving Dance, Amarith Table, December 2, 2023

The band began by playing to the dinner crowd at Amarith Table. Slowly, the diners left, and Donny’s fans filled the restaurant. It began as a tight dance area, but as the diners left, the staff moved tables to open up more dance space. We used the space well, and the staff took advantage of the extra space and joined in dancing and mixing with the fans. It was a shortened two-hour show, but the band played straight through except for a very short break to sing for Sunny and wish her a happy birthday with a chocolate on chocolate cake. Ummm, yummy. Thank you, Wei, for sharing your excellent skills! It was a fun-filled performance at a new venue in a different part of the county.

The Donny and the Walker veterans were back at Knowlwood Restaurant on Veteran’s Day! We had a fun evening dancing to some great old and new music from the band and guest vocalists. Some new dancers joined us, and we ensured they had a good evening! That is what it takes to expand the group and have them invite their friends.
